ARNOLD, Md. — The No. 18 Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer struck team struck in the fifth minute of the game, but saw its lead slip away in a 3-2 loss to visiting College of Southern Maryland Tuesday evening at Siegert Field. The difference maker came as an own goal in the 86th minute as CSM edged ahead for the win.
Emma Miga put Anne Arundel on the board early, finishing from 20 yards out in the 5th minute for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. After nearly 35 minutes of even play, Southern Maryland pulled level when Amber Jones converted in the 40th minute off a pass from Kiera Salazar.
The Riverhawks regained control just 19 ticks into the second half. Alaina Minefski put in a rebound off a Holly Wall shot in to give AACC a 2–1 lead. But Jones answered again for the Hawks in the 54th, this time off a cross by Sara Allwine, knotting the score at 2–2.
Anne Arundel pressed for a winner with three corner kicks in a four-minute span and generated three shots on net the rest of the way, but Southern Maryland capitalized on an own goal in the 86th minute to seal the match.
AACC goalkeeper Ryleigh Smoot made seven saves in, while CSM's Kylie Smith stopped eight.
With the result, AACC moved to 1–3 overall and 1–1 in Region 20 play, while Southern Maryland improved to 3–0 (2–0 Region 20).
Anne Arundel returns to action Thursday in a 4 p.m. Region 20 divisional game at Prince George's.
