Student-Athlete Advisory Council

Anne Arundel Community College Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is the student-athlete leadership team within AACC Athletics. SAAC consists of at least one student-athlete representative from each of AACC’s 12 varsity sports teams. These representatives provide leadership to their respective teams and to all student-athletes, as well as serve as a liaison between their team, SAAC, and athletic administration. SAAC leaders plan and spearhead community service initiatives and take part in leadership and development programming and training.

Mission

To provide student-athletes with opportunities for involvement in shaping intercollegiate athletics policy and enhancing the student-athlete experience. Prepare students to be leaders in their communities by providing them with professional development and growth opportunities.

Goals

  • Promote communication between athletics department staff and student-athletes.
  • Disseminate information to fellow athletes and athletic administrators.
  • Provide feedback and insight into athletics department opportunities.
  • Build a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletic teams.
  • Organize community service efforts.
  • Promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the athletic department and on campus.

Member Requirements and Expectations

  • Each team will have at least one SAAC representative and no more than three.
  • All interested student-athletes shall apply and be approved by head coach, coordinator of student-athlete success and athletic director.
  • SAAC members may miss no more than one meeting per semester.
  • SAAC members must attend all programming unless they have an approved absence.
  • SAAC members who wish to have a leadership role must submit a short essay explaining why they want the role and what they can bring to the role.
  • SAAC members must meet all eligibility requirements of the NJCAA.
