Women's Soccer Tames Catamounts in Regular Season Finale

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team defeated visiting Potomac State College, 6-0, in a divisional game at Siegert Field Thursday. The Riverhawks close out the regular season on a seven-game unbeaten streak and earned the top seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region 20 Division II Championship.

McKenzie Gilbert recorded her first multiple-goal game for the Riverhawks with a pair of goals. Evan Bathras had a goal and an assist, while Chloe Underwood and Makenzie Boyd each notched a pair of assists. Emma Miga, Jaylin Sheffield, and Karen Morales each scored a goal, and Megan Strevig picked up an assist.

AACC outshot Potomac State, 39-1, with the Catamounts' keeper, Hartley VanGilder recording 20 saves. Péla Saunders made one first-half save to earn the shutout win.

The Riverhawks (10-2-1) scored four goals in an 8:11 span in the first half. Gilbert scored the first two goals of the game just 91 seconds apart, first from Strevig in the 24th minute, then from Underwood in the 26th.

Boyd assisted the next two goals, first finding Miga off a corner set in the 30th minute and then connecting a pass across the top of the box for Bathras to finish in the 32nd minute.

Sheffield made it 5-0 in the 70th minute, completing a go-ahead pass from Bathras. Morales closed out the scoring with her first career goal with :47 left on the clock.

AACC has a bye for the opening round of the NJCAA Region 20 Division II tournament, and will host the winner of No. 5 Garrett and No. 4 Carroll in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 30 at Siegert Field.
