ARNOLD, Md. – Anne Arundel Community College freshman Emma Miga scored two goals and assisted another as the Riverhawks defeated visiting Frederick Community College, 5-0, Thursday evening at Siegert Field.
Tadem Augustin put AACC on the board in the second minute of the game, scoring off short pass from Chloe Underwood right in front of the goal. Tina Tinelli headed in a corner from Miga in the 16th minute for a two-goal lead.
Just 34 seconds later, Karen Morales played the ball ahead to Jaylin Sheffield, who scored one-on-one against Frederick keeper Angie Guzman.
Miga closed out the first half with a nifty unassisted strike; she whirled around a pair of defenders before splitting them for a clear shot inside the near post past Guzman in the 26th minute.
Despite outshooting the Cougars, 8-0, in the second half, it wasn't until the 69th minute that the Riverhawks finally connected. Miga again split a pair of defenders, this time sending in a long, low shot past Guzman.
Guzman finished with nine saves. Riverhawks' keeper Holly Wall made two stops in the first half for her first solo shut out of the season.
AACC (5-2-1) is back in action on Tuesday, September 24, in a 5 p.m. home game against Division I Montgomery.
