Women's Soccer Topples Hagerstown

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team scored three first-half goals en route to a 5-2 win over visiting Hagerstown Community College in NJCAA Region 20 action Thursday evening at Siegert Field. AACC sophomore Makenzie Boyd had a hat trick in the game.

AACC freshman Alitsa Robles scored just 1:22 into the game with her first career goal. Robles corralled a loose ball off a corner set at the goal line and tapped it in.

Boyd put the Riverhawks ahead, 2-0, with a seemingly impossible low angle shot in the 10th minute.

Jaylin Sheffield finished off a long loft pass from Tina Tinelli in the 21st minute for a 3-0 lead.

True Benshoff put Hagerstown (4-1) on the board just before the break. After collecting a pass from teammate Peyton Miller, Benshoff maneuvered around an AACC defender and fired into the far side of the cage.

Benshoff opened the second half with her second goal of the game, finishing a through ball from Tira Kohler.

Boyd closed out the game with back-to-back unassisted goals less than two minutes apart. She first got a foot on a loose ball in front of the cage for a wide open shot, then followed by tucking the ball under the cross bar after a short corner set.

AACC (3-1) outshot Hagerstown, 19-10, in the game, and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Riverhawks' keeper Holly Wall made four saves in her second start of the season. Hagerstown keeper Michaela Shindle stopped four shots in each half.

Next up for AACC, the Riverhawks travel to Garrett College for a 3 p.m. game on Thursday, September 12.
