Early Lead Fades Away for Men's Basketball vs Howard

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team held visiting Howard Community College to its lowest score of the season, but fell to the Dragons, 64-55, in NJCAA Region 20 divisional action at Jenkins Gym Wednesday evening.

Jeremiah Stroman paced the Riverhawks with 18 points, while Kris Peet added 16 to go with nine boards and a pair of blocks.

AACC (1-5, 0-2) opened the game on a 10-2 run, stunning the Dragons into making a complete lineup change less than five minutes into the game. A three-pointer by Howard's Christian Dean tied the game at 20-20 with 4:10 left in the first half, and after another tie, AACC closed out the frame with a 7-2 run to head to the locker room with a 29-24 lead.

Howard (7-2, 2-0) took its first lead if the game five minutes into the second half, after a nifty inbound pass from O'Meech Wilson to Taylor Shane for a hook shot under the hoop, making it 34-32 in favor of the Dragons.

The teams traded the lead twice more before Howard found its rhythm and used a 10-1 run to build up its lead. A Stroman layup brought AACC within four with under five to play, but the Dragons held the Riverhawks without a field goal over the final 2:55 to seal the deal.

Howard outrebounded AACC, 43-38, and limited the Riverhawks to a season-low one three-pointer in 16 attempts. The game was primarily played in the paint with 67% of all scoring taking place down low. Howard recorded 42 paint points to AACC's 38.

The Riverhawks continue their homestand this weekend facing Hagerstown Saturday at 1 p.m. and CCAC Sunday at 1 p.m.
