Big Second Half Lifts Montgomery Past Men's Basketball

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team fell to visiting Division II Montgomery, 97-59, in an NJCAA Region 20 game at Jenkins Gym Saturday afternoon. The Riverhawks held a one-point lead headed into halftime, but were outscored by 39 points in the second half.

Truth Norton led AACC with 15 points, adding four rebounds and three assists. Jack Taylor shot 4-for-7 from three to add a season-high 14 points to go with three rebounds and a steal.

After a slow start, the Riverhawks came back to take the lead on a Nick Agusterfer layup at the midpoint of the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by Norton and Taylor made it 17-12 in favor of the Riverhawks and gave AACC its largest lead of the game.

Montgomery edged back ahead by five only to see Taylor hit two more threes to bring the Riverhawks back within one, 33-32. Taylor followed with a pair of free throws to give AACC back the lead, which was kept on through a Norton layup and a jumper by Michael Duffy to carry a 39-38 lead into the break.

AACC's final lead came just three minutes into the second half as the Raptors (4-0) regrouped. They went on a 15-0 run over a five-minute span to build up the lead and finished the half shooting 50% to secure their fourth win of the season.

Montgomery scored 32 points off of AACC's 26 turnovers and outscored the Riverhawks in the paint, 40-18. The Raptors' bench accounted for 46 points, including 38 in the second half alone.

The Riverhawks (1-7) are back in action on Tuesday, November 22 in an 8 p.m. non-region game at Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester.
