Men's Hoops Runs Past Westmoreland in Region Semis

ARNOLD, MD – The second seed Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team ran past third seed Westmoreland, 98-55, in the NJCAA Region 20 Division III semifinals at Jenkins Gym Saturday afternoon. The Riverhawks' bench scored 43 points in the win.

Jack Taylor led the reserves with a career-high 15 points, scoring on five of six three-point attempts in the second half.

Jamar Young led AACC with 24 points and 12 rebounds for his fifth-straight double-double and seventh of the year. Braeden Cavey added 13 points and five rebounds, while Michael Cantrell was all over the stats sheet with six points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks.

AACC jumped out to a 14-2 lead early, and led 42-25 at the half on 51.4% shooting, led by 16 from Young in the frame. Midway through the second, the Riverhawks sank five-straight three-pointers in a span of three minutes to really put the game out of reach for the Wolfpack.

The Riverhawks held a 49-38 advantage off the glass, and generated28 points off of 24 Westmoreland turnovers in the game.

AACC advances to face top seed Prince George's Community College in the Region 20 Division III Championship on Sunday, February 20, at 3 pm in Jenkins Gym. The title tilt marks the third straight season the Riverhawks have squared off with the Owls for the region title – AACC defeated Prince George's, 84-79, in 2020 at Westmoreland; the Owls dealt the Riverhawks an 88-76 loss in 2019 loss at Prince George's.
