Volleyball Raises Funds for Wellness House of Annapolis, Falls to Catamounts

ARNOLD, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team won the first set against visiting Potomac State Saturday, but fell to the Catamounts, 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 23-25). The Riverhawks are one of just three teams in Region 20 to have taken at least one set from Potomac State.

Saturday's game was AACC's "Set for Strength" game, which raised more than $200 for the Wellness House of Annapolis.

Nadia Suber was perfect on the day with seven kills, adding a pair of aces, six digs and three blocks. Mia Keen added six kills, five assists, two aces, and 16 digs. Lluvia Owens-Pabon had five kills, three assists, two aces, and 13 digs. Liv Valdez had 27 digs, and Bella Hadden recorded nine assists.

AACC led for most of the first set before Potomac State used a 5-0 run to pull ahead, 23-22. A kill from Keen tied the game at 23 and before Owens-Pabon recorded back-to-back aces to take the set.

The Catamounts handily won the second set, 25-17, and the third, 25-20, but AACC battled it out in the fourth. The teams traded the lead 10 times throughout the fourth set, with AACC holding a two-point lead on four occasions. Tied, 22-22, the Catamounts nailed a kill from the outside to go ahead by one, and benefitted from an AACC attack error to set up match point, 24-22. A PSC blocking error brought AACC within one at 24-23, but the Riverhawks' final serve was short.

Next up for the Riverhawks is a 6 p.m. divisional match against Baltimore City in Jenkins Gym on Wednesday, October 9.
