COLUMBIA, MD – The Riverhawk women's soccer season came to an end this past weekend with a 6-0 loss to Montgomery College in the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament semi-final game.
The tournament was hosted at Howard Community College on October 28-30 with four teams entered:
No. 1 – Montgomery College
No. 2 – Potomac State College of West Virginia University
No. 3 – Howard Community College
No. 4 – Anne Arundel Community College.
Entering the tournament as the No. 4 seed the Riverhawks knew they had a tough match-up against the No. 1 seeded Raptors of Montgomery College who they lost to earlier in the season 8-1. The Raptor offense was relentless with their offensive drives and had sixteen shots on goal, scoring six in the end while holding the Riverhawks to zero for a final of 6-0.
Montgomery College would advance on to face Howard Community College in the championship game, and despite trailing after the first half; the Raptors claimed the NJCAA DIII Region XX Championship title with a 2-1 victory.
For their tournament performances, sophomore Alyssa Baronella-O'toole (Severn, MD/Old Mill) and freshman Allison Tyler (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) were named to the 2016 NJCAA DIII Region XX All-Tournament Team.
The Riverhawks finished the season at 6-10 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
