
ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team came back from a 15-point deficit late in the third quarter to defeat visiting Allegany College of Maryland, 71-66, in overtime Monday evening at Jenkins Gym.
The Riverhawks outscored the Trojans, 22-9, in the fourth quarter and doubled up the visitors in overtime to pick up their first win of the season.
With 5:29 left in the fourth quarter, a Lania Nick layup brought the Riverhawks within single digits, forcing the Trojans to call a time out. AACC kept chipping away at the lead, and took the lead on a three-point play by Aichatta Soumaoro with just over a minute left in regulation.
In the extra session, Allegany got within one point of the Riverhawks, but AACC limited the Trojans to 1-for-11 shooting performance in the stanza to hold on for the win.
Soumaoro led the Riverhawks with a 29-point, 17-rebound double-double. She also had a pair of blocks and two assists. Holly Wall pulled down a season-high 21 rebounds to go with 17 points and five assists. Lania Nick added 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
AACC led in rebounds, 69-48, and recorded 20 second-chance points in the game.
The Riverhawks are back in action Wednesday evening in a 5 p.m. game at Baltimore City Community College.
