
FREDERICK, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team fell to host Frederick Community College, 57-49, Wednesday evening. Freshman McKenzie Gilbert recorded a career-high 14 points in the game.
Gilbert shot 63.6% from the floor while also pulling down six rebounds and dishing two assists. Lania Nick scored 17 points and added six rebounds, two assists, and a block. Aichatta Soumaoro scored six points off the bench with 10 rebounds, and Holly Wall pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to go with four assists and two points.
AACC (0-13) used a 7-0 run late in the first quarter to tie up the game, but a last-second bucket from Heaven Murray put Frederick up by two at the buzzer. The Cougars (4-10) limited the Riverhawks to five points in the second quarter to build up a 31-22 lead at halftime.
Soumaoro sparked a 11-2 run in the fourth that got the Riverhawks within 12 points with 4:25 to play. After conceding a bucket, AACC closed out the game on a 6-0 run.
The Riverhawks outrebounded the Cougars, 51-40, in the game.
AACC is now idle until Monday, February 3, when the Riverhawks host DI Allegany College of Maryland at 5 p.m. in Jenkins Gym.
