Women's Basketball Sets Season Highs in Loss to Chesapeake

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team was topped by visiting Chesapeake College, 81-50, Saturday afternoon in Jenkins Gym. Aichatta Soumaoro recorded her NNth double-double of the season with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

AACC recorded season-highs of seven blocks and 61 rebounds in the game. Soumaoro led all players in rebounding in the game, notably grabbing 12 off the defensive glass, and had a season-high four blocks. Lania Nick scored 17 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, and a team-high four steals. Holly Wall grabbed 12 rebounds to go with eight points, a team-high five assists, a steal, and a block. Ayannah Gorham pulled down 13 rebounds to go with six points, an assist, a steal, and a block.

Back-to-back three pointers from Wall and Nick sparked the Riverhawks early in the first quarter, but Chesapeake (5-7) responded to go up, 18-11, by the end of the frame.

After trailing by double digits in most of the second quarter, the Riverhawks got within nine on a pair of Wall free throws. Chesapeake extended its lead back to 13 by halftime, leading 33-20 at the horn.

The Skipjacks poured in 25 points in the third quarter and used a flurry of transition points in the fourth to cement the win.

Chesapeake recorded 24 points in transition, and used 36 AACC turnovers to generate 37 points.

AACC continues its homestand with three games in Jenkins Gym this week, first hosting Salem CC at 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 16.
