ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team faced a pair of Region 20 opponents this week with back-to-back games. The Riverhawks fell to Prince George's on the road Tuesday, 89-55, and dropped Wednesday's game to Garrett College, 83-63.
Tuesday at Prince George's
The first quarter saw five lead changes as the teams felt each other out, but Prince George's opened up the game in the second and cruised to the win. Aichatta Soumaoro recorded her first double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 50% from the floor. Lania Nick added 18 points, including three three-pointers. Reona Robinson pulled down 10 rebounds, with nine coming off the defensive glass. As a whole AACC got to the free throw line 28 times, but finished shooting 43% from the charity stripe.
Wednesday vs. Garrett
AACC climbed back to within six points early in the fourth quarter against the Lakers, but Garrett limited the Riverhawks to six points the rest of the way while putting up 23 points. Ayannah Gorham recorded a career-high 22 rebounds en route to a season-high 26 total boards to go with a season-high 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Nick added 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Robinson scored 14 points and finished just shy of a double-double with eight rebounds.
The Riverhawks are now idle until Wednesday, December 4, when they travel to College of Southern Maryland for a 5 p.m. game.
