Game Notes

The Riverhawks grabbed their first win of the season this Sunday (11/5) afternoon, defeating the Blue Colts of Middlesex County College, 74-73, at home in the Jenkins Gymnasium of Anne Arundel Community College. It was a good win for the Riverhawks after opening their season with a tough road loss to the DI Fighting Owls of Harford Community College on Wednesday (11/1).

1st QTR: Middlesex would jump out early on the Riverhawks with a 10-5 lead halfway through the first quarter, but AACC would battle back aggressively – scoring 14 unanswered points to take a 19-10 lead. The Riverhawks would hold the lead 22-15 at the end of the 1st.

2nd QTR: Controlling the pace of the game, AACC would continue their scoring drives with Daja Burnett (Arnold,MD/Severna Park) leading for the Riverhawks with 14 points, followed by Jordan Graham (Severn,MD/Old Mill) with 10 points, and Autumn Foster-Fields (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) posting 9 points after the first half. Going into the break, AACC would lead 42-33.

3rd QTR: The Blue Colts would continue to trade baskets with the Riverhawks - scoring 17 points (to AACC's 18) during the 3rd quarter; putting points on the board but allowing AACC to hold a 60-50 lead.

4th QTR: Shooting 100% (6-6) from the free-throw line, and capitalizing on Riverhawk mistakes – the Blue Colts were able to score 23 points in the 4th, while holding the Riverhawks to just 14.

With just over 4 minutes remaining in the game, Middlesex would claim the lead for the first time since the 1st quarter, with the score 65-64. Both teams fighting for the win would keep the lead bouncing back and forth – with AACC besting Middlesex at 74-73 with just 39 seconds left on the clock.

The Blue Colts would put themselves in a position to win the game with a short jump shot in the remaining seconds – but failing to make the basket would secure the 74-73 victory for the Riverhawks.
