Men's Soccer Edges Catonsville in Divisional Game

CATONSVILLE, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team scored two first-half goals in a 2-1 NJCAA Region 20 divisional win at CCBC Catonsville Tuesday evening.

Henry Guillen and Ever Santos scored unassisted goals for the Riverhawks. Olvin Martinez earned the win with two second-half saves.

Giovanni Alonso struck first for the Cardinals (4-9-1), tipping the ball over the AACC keeper who had come way out to attack the ball in the 33rd minute.

Guillen knotted the game just over five minutes later. Off a corner kick, Guillen headed the ball straight up and the Catonsville keeper came out to play it. The keeper, however, misplayed the ball and Guillen put it into the open net.

Santos scored the game winner with XX left in the first half. He collected a loose ball that bounced off a Catonsville defender and fired from 22 yards out.

The second half was a defensive battle as AACC got one shot on net and Catonsville had just two. Both of the Cardinals' second-half attempts came within the first 12 minutes of the second half.

AACC's best chance came in the 75th minute when Chris Moreira connected with a free kick to head the ball high toward the Cardinals' cage and right into the keeper's hands.

The teams combined for 19 total shots in the game. Catonsville held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, including a 2-0 lead in the second half.

Next up for AACC is a 7 p.m. home game against Potomac State on Thursday, October 17. The game marks the final regular-season game for the Riverhawks.
