Six From Men's Soccer Named All-Region 20

ARNOLD, MD – Six members of the Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team have been named to the 2022 NJCAA All-Region 20 teams, it was announced recently. The two-time reigning champions of Region 20 placed five student-athletes on the first team and one earned honorable mention accolades.

Sophomores Sam AdamsRaphael Arias, and Edgar Garcia along with freshmen Leyton Calzado and Matthew Sutter were named to the first team. Freshman Daevon Lionel was named to the honorable mention team. 

Adams was named All-Region for the second time after his second-straight appearance on the NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer All-Tournament team. He was a key player in the Riverhawks' midfield, scoring a goal to go with two assists on the season.

Arias, also named All-Region for the second time, anchored the back line and also scored two goals to go with four assists on the year.

Calzado led the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists, netting a team-high three game-winning goals on the year. 

Garcia returned to the net after a one-year absence to post an 11-6 record including six shutouts to go with a 1.88 goals against average – the lowest in Region 20 DIII and fifth best in Region 20 among all divisions.

Sutter totaled a goal and three assists on the season, and had a huge impact on the Riverhawks' defense that allowed opponents a .144 shot percentage on the year.

Lionel was also a key two-way player in the defense and midfield, starting 16 games for AACC with a goal in Region play.

AACC advanced to the NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships for the second-straight year after back-to-back Region 20 and District titles. The Riverhawks won 11 games, the most since the 2016 season.
