No. 8 Men's Soccer Fends Off Carroll

ARNOLD, MD – The No. 8 Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team dealt visiting Carroll Community College a 5-3 loss Tuesday evening at Siegert Field. Leyton Calzado was a key factor in the Riverhawks' offense.

Calzado opened the scoring in the 30th minute firing in a rebound from Sam Adams from point-blank range. Less than two minutes later Connor Pollack blocked a clearing attempt by Carroll keeper Sammy Leon, and fired into the cage unopposed for a 2-0 lead.

Carroll responded with a goal in the 27th minute, but on the next possession, a corner kick from Calzado ricocheted off the Lynx keeper's initial save into the net off the back of a defender to make it 3-1 AACC.

Juan Zavala Hernandez gave the Riverhawks a three-goal lead in the 50th minute with a penalty kick goal. The strike marked the first of the season for the defender.

Calzado returned the favor to Adams in the 60th minute, feeding a cross to Adams, who maneuvered around a defender before scoring the Riverhawks' final goal.

Carroll added a pair of late goals, first in the 63rd minute, and again in the 90th minute while down a player due to a red card in the 73rd minute.

Edgar Garcia earned the win for AACC, playing the first 62 minutes of the game. Jackson Hornberger made his Riverhawks debut playing the final 28 minutes

AACC outshot Carroll, 26-7, with every field player seeing time on the pitch. The Riverhawks wrap up the regular season on the road at CCBC Catonsville on Friday, October 14. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
