Castle PK Lifts Men's Soccer Over NOVA

ARNOLD, MD – Freshman forward Jack Castle scored on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute of the game, and Freshman goalkeeper Brenden LeMaster made three big second half saves as the No. 4 seed Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team defeated fifth seed Northern Virginia in the NJCAA Region XX Play In Game at Siegert Field Saturday morning.

The playoff win marks the fourth in a row for the Riverhawks over the Nighthawks, and secures AACC's semifinal berth. The Riverhawks will host top seed Howard Community College on Friday, November 1, at 2:30 pm.

Castle's penalty kick goal marked the fifth of his career, his third game-winner, and first pk attempt and score.

LeMaster fought off some strong second half attempts from NOVA, making a diving save against Tobias Harris in the 82nd minute, followed by another diving stop against Daniel Kwadwo Dwuma in the 88th minute.

AACC outshot NOVA, 16-8, as Nighthawks goalkeeper Emmanuel Vargas made eight saves in the loss. The Riverhawks had a great chance in the final minute as Luke Hanno drew out Vargas and dribbled around him, but his shot careened off the post.

NOVA wraps up the season at 5-7.
