Win Over Division I Harford Puts Riverhawks 2-2 for the Season

ARNOLD, MD – Anne Arundel Community College's Riverhawk men's soccer team took down the NJCAA Division I Fighting Owls of Harford Community College, 3-2, at Siegert Stadium Tuesday night.

The game was scoreless for a majority of the first half, until Garrett McLendon (Annapolis, MD/South River) capitalized on a penalty shot, giving the Riverhawks a 1-0 lead.

The Fighting Owls didn't wait long to tie the game as Brandon Klepetka found the back of the net just three minutes into the second half.  Both teams seemed to be producing strong attacks at either end but it was the Riverhawks who finished; Azzi Riad (Queens, NY/Marina International) buried one from an excellent ball played by Brandon Long (Severn, MD/Old Mill), and Mark Woodward (Hanover, MD/Meade) scored with some quick thinking and quick feet, as he drilled one in from the top of the box after a foul was committed by Harford.  Daniel Milad executed a perfect corner kick for the Fighting Owls as teammate Frank Assaro finished with a header to the cut the Riverhawk's lead down to 1, but AACC was able to hold on and secure the win, 3-2.

The victory puts the Riverhawks at 2-2 overall, and 2-1 in the conference.  The men's soccer team kicked off their season with an opener win, 5-2, against College of Southern Maryland, followed by a pair of losses, 5-0, against CCBC Essex, and 4-0 against Harcum College through the Labor Day holiday.

AACC's next match-up is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Thursday September 15th, as the Riverhawks travel to face the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville.
