ARNOLD, Md. – Sophomore goalkeeper Parrish Fleming made a career-high 23 saves to backstop the Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team to a 6-5 win over visiting College of DuPage Friday evening at Siegert Field.
Jamari Evans and Sahil Lengade each scored twice, while Tyson Miller added a goal and two assists.
Lengade scored his two goals in the first quarter as the teams traded tallies in the frame, sparking a three-goal run spanning over 26 minutes from the end of the first through late in the third quarter to see the Riverhawks hold a 4-2 lead. Evans scored the lone goal of the second quarter, taking a pass from Alex Del Moral and bouncing it in. Jordan Fanzo capped the run converting a pass from Miller.
Trailing by two, Zo DiGiacinto carried the ball deep into the zone before passing across the netfront to Michael Saccomanno for a high-low shot with 47 ticks left on the third quarter clock.
Miller factored in the two AACC goals in the fourth, first dodging past a flock of DuPage defenders and creating his own open lane for his team-leading 31st goal of the season. Less than four minutes later, he spied Evans out top from X for a sidewinding shot and a 6-3 lead.
DuPage threatened late, scoring a pair of goals in the final 75 seconds of the game. Isaiah Garcia potted one in a flag down situation with 1:15 to play, and Bennett Jones capped the scoring with an unassisted man-up goal with 11 seconds left in the game.
James Kavney handily won the ensuing faceoff and carried the ball deep to the corner to run down the clock. Kavney won eight of 13 faceoffs in the game.
DuPage outshot its hosts at a 48-35 clip, but Fleming was up to the task with 15 saves in the second half alone.
AACC is idle until Wednesday, April 2, when the Riverhawks open Region 20 play with a 6 p.m. game against Harford at Siegert Field. Pregame festivities for I Love Athletics Night begin at 4:30 p.m. on the Siegert Field concourse.
