ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team raced past visiting Delaware Tech, 26-6, Saturday, in NJCAA action at Siegert Field. Sophomore John McElhenny scored 10 goals and assisted another in the win.
Five other Riverhawks recorded multiple point games, including Sam Barrett (six goals, three assists), Logan Wheeler (five goals, one assist), and Trevor Murray (two goals, six assists). Justin Sampson scored a goal and recorded three assists. Tyler Silvestri scored a goal and assisted another. Scott Williams also scored for AACC, which outshot Delaware Tech, 58-33.
AACC's man-down unit was perfect on the day, holding Delaware Tech 0-for-6 in man-up opportunities. The Riverhawks' clear was especially effective at 21-for-19, and the ride held Delaware Tech to an 18-for-28 performance.
The Riverhawks picked up 68 groundballs in the driving rain, led by 16 from Murray, who went 24-for-36 at the faceoff x. Long pole Kyle Barkley had eight, and fellow defenseman TJ Swann picked up six on the day.
AACC (2-0) opened the game on an 11-goal run, giving up the first goal of the game to Delaware Tech at the 10:22 mark of the second quarter. The Riverhawks tacked on five more before halftime, seeing Delaware Tech find the net with 2:09 left in the half to carry a 16-2 lead into the break.
McElhenny scored early in the third before Delaware tech scored on the next possession. The Riverhawks then went on a seven-goal run spanning the remainder of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter. Delaware Tech scored twice more in the final 5:32 of the game.
AACC hits the road this weekend for a pair of games in Upstate New York. The Riverhawks face Genesee at 2 p.m. on Friday before taking on Herkimer at 12 p.m. Saturday.
