
BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's golf team placed sixth at the NJCAA Division II Southeast District Championship at the Golf Club of Bristol in Bristol, Tenn. this week.
After the first round Monday, the Riverhawks were in sixth place, just five strokes back from leader Pelissippi State. AACC shot a season-best combined 300 in round two to move up to fifth place later in the day. The Riverhawks dropped one spot to sixth after a combined 305 on Tuesday.
Tim Brophy finished tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 200. He carded a 74 (+3) in the first round with three birdies on the front nine and four overall to stand in 12th place. He moved up to ninth after a 73 (+2) in the second round where he shot for par or better on the entire back nine, including a birdie on 17. He was even on the back nine in round three when he again carded a 73 (+2).
Will Maddox finished in tied for 22nd place overall with a combined score of 229. Maddox had three birdies on the front nine in the first round, scoring a 77 (+6) to stand in a tie for 17th place. He started the back nine of the second round with four-straight pars and birdied the first and ninth holes to score a 76 (+5) in a tie for 21st place. He was even on the back nine in the final round, carding a 75 (+4) with two birdies.
Eddie Sarrach finished tied for 27th with a combined 233. In the first round, he closed out the front nine with five straight pars and a birdie, finishing tied for 18th with a 75 (+4). Sarrach moved up to 11th place after the second round with a 74 (+3) after carding four pars on both the front and back nine to go with three birdies. Despite scoring birdies on the second and 13th holes in the final round, Sarrach scored an 84 (+13).
Matt Crawmer finished in 37th place with a combined 240. He shot an 83 in the first round with five pars on both the front and back nine. He cut six strokes off his score in round two with five-straight parts on the back nine and a pair of birdies on the front, finishing with a 77 (+6). Crawmer led off the final round with one of two birdies, and shot for par on six holes on the front nine to finish with a 79 (+8).
Darren Hoffman rounded out the scoring for AACC in a tie for 43rd with a three-day 247. Hoffman scored an 84 in the first round with a birdie on the second hole. In the second round he had five pars on the back nine to finish with an 85. Hoffman rallied for a consistent third round, scoring a 78 (+7) to move up three sports on the leaderboard. Hoffman started with six-straight pars and finished with five-straight pars.
AACC won its second-straight NJCAA Region 20 DII title and its third-straight MJDUCO title earlier this month.
