Brophy Takes Top Spot in Home Match

EDGEWATER, Md. – Anne Arundel Community College sophomore Tim Brophy hit a hole in one on the 14th hole en route to a top individual finish at the Riverhawks' home match Thursday afternoon at the Golf Club at South River. Brophy led the Riverhawks team to a tie for first place with Hagerstown.

Brophy hit for par or better and led the field through 12 holes before recording a double bogey on 13. The sophomore rebounded with his second career hole in one on 14 to retake the lead. He finished with a 70 (-1) in his best round of the season.

Among scoring golfers for AACC, Will Maddox and Eddie Sarrach tied for fifth overall with an 80 (+9). Maddox recovered from a tough front nine with three birdies on the back. Sarrach recorded six-straight pars on the back nine.

AACC finished +31, tied with Hagerstown for the lead. Southern Maryland (+41) was third, and Carroll (+70) was fourth.

Matt Crawmer rounded out the scoring for the Riverhawks with a 85, and Darren Hoffman carded a 90.

Among the Riverhawks' individual golfers, Jameson Haynes carded an 80 with three birdies on the day to tie for fifth overall. Carter Lichok was one stroke behind with an 81 in ninth place, and Sam Thompson carded an 84 in 12th place.

Tyler Collins birdied the sixth hole and finished with an 88 (+17). Danny Schell and Troy Basham both shot 94, and Kyle Elliott finished with a 106.

AACC plays a tune-up match at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course Monday, April 14, before playing the MDJUCO and Region 20 championships April 16-17, at Oakmont Green Golf Course.
