Men's Basketball Drops Weeknight Games to Harford, Potomac State

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team dropped a pair of midweek Region games, falling to Division I Harford, 97-68, on Monday, February 6, and to Potomac State, 85-81, in a nail-biter on Wednesday, February 8.

The Riverhawks had six players score in double digits against the Catamounts on Wednesday as AACC put up a season high-tying 52 points in the second half. The Riverhawks' bench scored a season best-tying 26 points, with Chris Thomas netting 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from three-point range with three assists and Nicholas Augusterfer scoring 14 points to go with six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Marquis James led the Riverhawks with 18 points and seven rebounds. Truth Norton recorded a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds (14 defensive). Jack Taylor added 10 points and five boards, while Michael Duffy netted 11 points to go with three rebounds.

AACC trailed by 16 midway through the second half before Thomas sparked a 10-point run with back-to-back three-pointers. Potomac State went back up by as many as 10, but the Riverhawks again cut it to six on an Augusterfer layup with under four minutes to play.

A monster block and rebound by Augusterfer led him to a trip to the stripe, where he made the front end of a one-and-one to cut the Catamounts' lead to five, 78-73. He kept up the momentum with a tip-in on the next possession and a layup on the following one to bring the Riverhawks within three, 80-77, with 2:26 left on the clock.

Potomac State sank a pair of free throws to extend its lead to five, but Jack Taylor hit a timely three-pointer to bring AACC within two, 82-80, as the clock approached one minute. Norton found himself at the line with 57 ticks left on the clock, making the second attempt to get the Riverhawks within one, 82-81.

AACC was forced to foul as time was waning, seeing Potomac State make three of its final four free throw attempts to go back up by four. The Riverhawks took their final time out with seven seconds left, but the final three-point attempt missed.

On Monday, Stroman led the Riverhawks with 28 points and six rebounds against the Owls, shooting 50% from the floor (10-20) and from three-point range (5-10). Marquis James chipped in with an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Malik Carroll added 12 points and nine boards.

AACC got within four points just before halftime, but the Riverhawks were outscored, 54-29, in the second half. Harford led the rebounding battle, 46-38, and blocked 11 shots in the game.

AACC hosts Division I Allegany Monday, February 13, at 7 p.m. before hosting sophomore night against Division I Baltimore City Tuesday, February 14, at 5 p.m.
