Men's Basketball Runs Past Frederick

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team used a pair of  big runs in the second half to pull away from visiting Frederick Community College in a 94-83 win over the Cougars in MDJUCO action Saturday at Jenkins Gym.

Jamar Young recorded his third double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds, including 10 off the offensive glass which fed into the Riverhawks' 18 second-chance points – the team's second-highest total of the year. Rashod Ballard added 17 points, six assists, three steals and three rebounds in his first career start. Michael Cantrell filled the stats sheet with 17 points (3-of-6 from three), six boards, six assists, six steals, and four blocks.

AACC twice went on 11-0 runs in the second half to cement the win, leading by as many as 17 points with under six minutes to play. Frederick chipped away at the lead, twice cutting the deficit to single-digits in the final 1:30, but was unable to make up the difference.

The Cougars led, 51-49, headed into halftime on 58.8% shooting in the period. Both teams were lights out in the first half, seeing AACC fire at 52.6% from the floor in the stanza. In the second half, AACC limited Frederick to just 29.4% shooting from the floor while forcing 12 turnovers. The Riverhawks outscored the Cougars, 48-32, in the paint, and held the lead in rebounding at 42-39.

AACC (8-10, 2-8) is back in action on Wednesday, February 9, in a 6 pm MDJUCO game at CCBC Dundalk.
