Men's Basketball Rallies Past CCBC Catonsville

ARNOLD, MDChe Colbert tipped in a rebound with 3.9 seconds left in the game to lift the Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team to an 83-82 win over visiting CCBC Catonsville Wednesday evening in Jenkins Gym. The bucket capped an 11-point swing in favor of the Riverhawks over the final five minutes of the game.

Down by 10 with 4:54 remaining, AACC called a full timeout to regroup before mounting an 18-7 run over the game's final minutes. Matt Kostacopolous was key to the run, scoring eight points in the span.

Trailing, 82-81, with 18 ticks left on the clock, Braeden Cavey pulled down a rebound off a Catonsville missed one-and-one free throw, quickly transitioning to Kostacopolous as he sprinted wide open toward the hoop. Kostacopolous's shot bounced off the rim and Colbert leapt up to tip in the rebound for the lead.

AACC pressed the ensuing inbounds play by the Cardinals, and Colbert forced a turnover before Catonsville could cross midcourt.

Cavey led the Riverhawks with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and racked up seven three pointers on 13 attempts (53.8%). Colbert was just short of a double-double with 21 points and nine boards to go with four steals, three assists, and a block. Kostacopolous scored a career-high 17 points in 27 minutes off the bench, and Young totaled 13 points and five boards. Michael Cantrell was a key playmaker with seven assists and three steals to go with seven points.

The Riverhawks kept exceptional control of the ball, committing a season-low six turnovers, while turning 18 Catonsville turnovers into 23 points. AACC outscored their visitors in the paint, by a 48-26 margin.

AACC is idle until January 5, 2022, when they travel to Delaware Tech for a 7 pm game.
