Men's Basketball Outlasts McDaniel JV, 78-72

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team fought off a late surge from the McDaniel JV team and held on for a 78-72 win at Jenkins Gym Monday evening. Michael Cantrell filled up the stats sheet for AACC with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, six steals, and a pair of blocks.

Jamar Young scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half on 6-of-11 shooting, totaling seven rebounds in the game. He also connected for four assists on the night.

Braeden Cavey added 15 points and seven rebounds, scoring 11 in the first half alone.

AACC started to pull away midway through the first half, getting to a double-digit lead of 27-16 with 9:02 to play. McDaniel chipped away at it to get within two points, 34-36, with under two remaining but a jumper from Cavey and a pair of free throws from Jack Taylor edged the Riverhawks ahead by six at the break, 40-34.

McDaniel opened the second half on a 6-2 run to get back within two and kept it close throughout. AACC twice used 8-0 runs to extend its lead to its largest lead of 15 before McDaniel chipped away again, cutting it to a four-point deficit with just over a minute to play.

Cavey and Brian McCoy made their free throws down the line to keep the game in check.

AACC shot 49.3% on the night, and outscored the Green Terror, 44-32 in the paint.

The Riverhawks begin Maryland JUCO and Region 20 play Friday in a 7 pm game at Prince George's.
