Owls Win Battle Against Men's Basketball

ARNOLD, MD – In a game that featured eight ties and six lead changes, the Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team fell to visiting Prince George's Community College, 82-70 Saturday afternoon at Jenkins Gym. Davon Jones led AACC with 19 points and five rebounds, shooting 50% from three-point range (5-10).

Joseph Chase recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, further cementing his spot among the top rebounders in Region XX (6th in rebounds per game). He also recorded five steals and three assists. Aaron McGriff chipped in with 12 points and five boards, including a 6-for-6 effort at the charity stripe. Michael Cantrell also added 12 points to go with seven rebounds.

Neither team led by more than six points in the first half. AACC  did not relinquish the lead for almost a 10-minute span in the opening frame, until Sterling Jasper completed a three-point play for a 27-26 Owls' lead with 7:59 left in the stanza.

The team traded the lead six more times before halftime, with a Jasper layup giving Prince George's a 41-10 lead headed into the break.

Prince George's opened the second half with back-to-back three-pointers to extend the lead to seven points, and kept at least a three-point margin for the rest of the game.

AACC profited off of 20 Prince George's turnovers, generating 24 points from the miscues.

The Riverhawks continue MDJUCO action Wednesday in a 7 pm game at Frederick Community College before closing out 2019 with a 7 pm home game against Hocking Community College on Thursday.
