ARNOLD, MD – Up and down action ended in favor of CCBC Dundalk with an 80-73 finish for a MD JUCO men's basketball contest.
The seemingly fast-break driven game began with AACC holding a brief lead over the Lions of CCBC Dundalk, but as the momentum changed the Lions found themselves on top, 42-35 at half. The Riverhawks would not re-claim the lead until late in the second half with the score of 61-58 with 9 minutes remaining. The Lions capitalized on a few and-one opportunities, and quickly found themselves back on top. With only 27 seconds left the Riverhawks could not overcome the76-70 deficit they had found themselves in, and ultimately lost 80-73.
Anthony Bennett Jr. led the Lions with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while Mike White orchestrated their offense at point guard and contributed 20 points. CCBC Dundalk shot 47.5% going 28-59 and 8-26 from beyond the arc. Solid at the foul line, the Lions shot 80% making 16-20.
Marcus Dentley led Anne Arundel Community College with 23 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds. Jemeul Brown added another double-double to his season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The starting line-up for the Riverhawks all contributed double-digit points in Tuesday night's match-up, but it was just not enough to subdue the Lions.
The Riverhawks shot 31-68 – posting a 45.6% field goal percentage, went 7-11 at the foul line, and recorded an uncharacteristically low 16.7 three-point field goal percentage.
AACC will travel and face the Nighthawks of Northern Virginia Community College on Thursday, February 4th with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
