FREDERICK, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team dropped its first game of the NJCAA Region 20 DII Baseball Tournament Saturday, falling, 6-0, to top seed and host Frederick. AACC will now face CCBC Catonsville at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 12. The elimination game was scheduled for late Saturday afternoon, but the first game of the day between CCBC Catonsville and Montgomery went 13 innings forcing yet another schedule change to the tournament.
The Riverhawks were limited to three hits by Cougars' ace Cesar Morales, who struck out nine in the complete game effort, improving to 9-0 on the year.
Frederick (47-6) scored twice in both the fourth and fifth innings, adding single runs in the sixth and seventh. AACC had runners on second and third in the third and fifth innings, but Frederick was able to work out of both jams. The Riverhawks loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth, but a strikeout ended the inning.
AACC starter Jack Davidson gave up just three hits in four innings of work, but shouldered the loss with three runs (one earned) before giving way to Evan Pohlman, who finished out the game allowing three runs on five hits.
