The Riverhawk men's baseball team hosted a double-header at the prestigious Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD this past Saturday afternoon (4/7), facing the Raptors of Montgomery College. The multi-million dollar facility was named after longtime Navy baseball coach Max Bishop (1937-61) and the Terwilliger Family for their generous support of the Naval Academy and the Naval Academy Athletic Association.

The Riverhawks would drop game 1 of the double header after some late scoring by the Raptors but would split the day by winning game 2.

Game 1 Notes

A first inning double by Christopher Clyde (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) would drive the run in for an early, 1-0, AACC lead, but two runs for the Raptors in the 3rd would give Montgomery the 2-1 advantage. Ryan Key (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) would single on a 1-0 count to score a run and tie the game up at 2 in the bottom of the 4th but after a single run in the 5th the Raptors would then pull away in the 7th – scoring 5 runs, taking a 8-2 lead.

Struggling to score throughout the game while the Raptors rallied in the 5th, the Riverhawks would ultimately fall 8-2.

Game 2 Notes

AACC fired up the offense in game 2 in the second inning, when Lucas Boulter (Laurel, MD/Meade) tripled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Ryan Richardson (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) would single to score Boulter, and Connor Graham (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) would ground out to SS but grabbing an RBI as Richardson would score. AACC would lead 3-0 after 2 innings.

Riverhawks would lead 4-0 heading into the top of the 4th as Richardson's double to center field would drive in pinch runner Jeremy Parnell (Bowie, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) before the Raptors could close out the 3rd inning.

Montogmery College would make their push in the top of the 4th scoring 3 runs, but with the Riverhawks holding the Raptors to a scoreless 5th and 6th inning, while picking up another run of their own – AACC would take game 2, 5-3.

Dominic Stanbery (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) was the winning pitcher for the Riverhawks, taking over for Christopher Wiley (Upper Marlboro, MD/Southern) while Dustin Gosnell (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) entered to record the last out and earn the save.
