AACC Student-Athletes, Teams, Earn Academic Recognition from NJCAA

ARNOLD, MD. – Anne Arundel Community College student-athletes have been recognized for academic success by the NJCAA, it was announced Tuesday. The national champion women's lacrosse team was named the NJCAA Women's Lacrosse 2022-23 Academic Team of the Year with the highest team GPA among women's lacrosse programs. Four other varsity teams at AACC were named NJCAA All-Academic Teams. The Riverhawks had 29 student-athletes earn individual academic honors as NJCAA All-Academic First, Second, and Third Team honorees.

The Riverhawks' women's lacrosse team boasted a 3.13 GPA in the classroom this academic year. On the field, AACC completed the season with an undefeated record and claimed the third NJCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship title in program history, their first since 2007.

30 programs from across the country earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors after achieving the highest GPA in their respective sport throughout the academic year.

The baseball, women's cross country, golf, and softball teams all recorded at least a 3.0 GPA on the year en route to earning NJCAA All-Academic Team status.

Of the 29 individuals recognized on the NJCAA All-Academic Teams, AACC had seven on the first team, six on the second team, and 16 on the third team. The NJCAA All-Academic Teams recognize student-athletes across the country for their dedication in the classroom. 

 Student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2022-23 academic year. The criteria for the three All-Academic teams are listed below:

  • NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
  • NJCAA All-Academic Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA
  • NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA

Nationwide, 2,702 student-athletes garnered NJCAA All-Academic First Team honors after achieving a 4.0 GPA. 3,347 student-athletes were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team while 4,117 student-athletes received third-team recognition.
