Onondaga Tops No. 1 Women's Lacrosse in NJCAA Semifinals

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The top ranked Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team fell to host Onondaga Community College, 22-15, in the NJCAA Semifinals Saturday afternoon. The second-seeded Riverhawks made their record 13th appearance in the national tournament.

Madison Hobbs led the Riverhawks with 10 points on six goals and three assists, scoring on every shot on goal. She also corralled five draw controls. Elsa Skinner added three goals and a game-high 10 draw controls. Both were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Savanna Reitz scored three goals and assisted another, and Madison Shaner scored twice.

Hobbs scored on the first possession of the game and the teams traded goals until Onondaga scored three in a row in a two-minute span to take a 4-2 lead. The teams traded goals through the end of the quarter with Onondaga leading, 6-4, at the break.

AACC retook the lead early in the second quarter with three-straight goals, including man-up strikes from Hobbs and Reitz. The momentum then shifted to the Lazers, who rattled off five in a row to retake the lead, 11-7. AACC mounted a comeback, scoring the final three goals of the half to trail, 11-10, at the end of two quarters.

AACC kept rallying to get within one goal, but a seven-goal run by the Lazers that spanned the third and fourth quarters put the game out of reach.

Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans made 10 saves in the game, stopping eight in the first half. The Riverhawks went 4-for-7 in free position shots, while holding the Lazers to a 2-for-7 effort. AACC also held a 22-18 lead in draw controls.
