#1 Women's Lax falls to #2 Harford in District Championship

ARNOLD, MD – The top-ranked Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 2 Harford, 18-6, in the Mid-Atlantic District Championship at Siegert Field Saturday afternoon. The Riverhawks claimed the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic B title, and advance to the NJCAA Championship May 13-15, at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y.

Elsa Skinner scored twice and assisted another goal, while Savanna Reitz added two goals. Oriana Crowley and Madison Hobbs each added goals. Hobbs recorded a game-high seven draw controls, while Skinner pulled down six.

Harford (4-2) scored within the first two minutes, but AACC (6-3) responded with a four-goal run spanning four-and-a-half minutes to take a 4-1 lead by the 8:09 mark.

The Owls took control of the game after that, tying up the game at four-all by the end of the first quarter and continuing on to outscore the Riverhawks, 6-0, in the second quarter to hold a 10-4 lead at halftime.

Harford continued on, finishing an 11-0 run at 5:49 in the third. Crowley scored for AACC at 1:53, but the Owls potted one more in the frame to hold a 13-5 lead headed into the final stanza.

Harford added one before Skinner scored on a free-position shot with 12:50 to play, and the Owls closed the game on a 4-0 run.

AACC committed 27 turnovers to Harford's 11, but led at the draw, 19-8. Harford was successful in 18 of 19 clear attempts, while the Riverhawks successfully cleared 10 of 19 attempts.

Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans made a career-high 13 saves in the game.
