Five From Women's Lacrosse Named All-American

ARNOLD, MD. – Five members of the 2023 NJCAA national champion Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team have been named NJCAA All-Americans, it was announced Tuesday. Sophomore midfielder Savanna Reitz earned her second All-America award.

Freshman midfielders Lyndsey Miller and Julia Sokolowski, as well as sophomore midfielder Nellie Gownley and sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans joined Reitz on the All-America team.

Miller ranked third in the nation in points (77) and goals (56), and fourth in assists (21) in eight games played. She recorded 41 draw controls and scored five or more goals in every game she played in.  She was named NJCAA Player of the Week after recording a program-best 11 goals and two assists against then No. 3 Monroe on April 8.

Sokolowski ranked second in the nation in points (83), goals, (60), and assists (23), and third nationally with 67 draw controls. She was named the NJCAA Player of the Week twice during the season and earned NJCAA Region 20 Player of the Month accolades for April after totaling 32 points on 25 goals and seven assists in four games. She was twice named NJCAA Player of the Week during the season.

Reitz served as AACC's draw specialist and finished ranked fourth in the NJCAA with 52 draws. As a team, AACC finished with 214 draw controls, good for second in the nation with Reitz on the draw. In addition, the team's only returning All-American from a year ago recorded 35 points on 28 goals and seven assists. Reitz was named the NJCAA Region 20 Player of the Month for March, 2023, when she paced the Riverhawks to win 54% of their draws in three wins.

Gownley was a key two-way player for the Riverhawks, using her defensive prowess to lead AACC to the second-highest total of caused turnovers in the nation. Gownley started eight of nine games for AACC, and peaked at the end of the season to notch 10 points (8 goals, 2 assists) in the playoffs. Gownley was key on draw controls, totaling 34 draw controls, including 19 across the final three games of the season.

Evans led the nation with a 9.50 goals against average, making 84 saves in 600 minutes between the pipes. She recorded the most wins in the nation and ranked second in save percentage at 46.9%. She made 11 saves against Onondaga in the national title game. Evans took home NJCAA Player of the Week honors for the opening week of the season after backstopping the Riverhawks to an upset win of then No. 2 Harford with six saves and propelling them to the number one ranking for the remainder of the season.

AACC placed five student-athletes on the All-America team in 2022. The Riverhawks have had 56 student-athletes named All-Americans since the beginning of the program in 2004.
