No. 1 Women's Lax Hosts District Championship Thursday

ARNOLD, MD. – The No. 1 Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team is set to host the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District championship Thursday, May 4. The top-ranked Riverhawks will face No. 5 Harford at 6 p.m. at Siegert Field.

The Riverhawks (7-0) have been ranked atop the NJCAA poll for the last six weeks. They defeated Harford, 18-4, at home on Monday, April 17, to complete their first undefeated regular season since 2007. AACC opened the season with a 19-4 win at Harford on March 15.

AACC is averaging 20.14 goals per game – the most in the NJCAA – and allowing opponents just 8.14 goals per game – the fewest in the NJCAA. AACC has won all but one game this season by 10 or more goals.

Freshman midfielder Julia Sokolowski leads the NJCAA in points (55) and ranks second in the nation in goals (39). Her 16 assists ranks third in the nation. She was twice named the NJCAA Player of the Week this season. Freshman midfielder Lyndsey Miller ranks third in the NJCAA in points (49) and goals (36). She was once named NJCAA Player of the Week this season.

Draw specialist and returning All-American midfielder Savanna Reitz has helped AACC to some of the best draw control numbers in the country, seeing the bulk go to Sokolowski (50) or her own hand (32).

Sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans boasts the lowest goals against average in the NJCAA (8.14) and the second-best save percentage at 48.6% -- almost 12 points higher than last season.

Head Coach Jim Griffiths, now in his 20th season at the helm of the AACC program, has guided AACC to 13 national tournament appearances and back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.

The four team NJCAA championship tournament, will be hosted by Monroe Community College May 13-14 in Rochester, N.Y.
