Late Surge Sends Cecil Past Women's Basketball

NORTH EAST, MD – The Cecil College women's basketball team outlasted Anne Arundel Community College, defeating the visiting Riverhawks, 65-58, Wednesday evening. Autumn Foster-Fields paced AACC with 24 points.

Sarah Healy recorded a team-high 16 rebounds to go with six steals, a block, and an assist.

Foster-Fields scored 11 of her points in the third quarter on a five of eight effort from the floor, including three-straight transition layups to give AACC the lead with just over a minute left in the frame. A Cecil three-pointer as the clock expired extended the Hawks' lead back to five as the teams headed into the final quarter.

Cecil led by as many as nine in the fourth, but Foster-Fields again went to work, scoring six in a row to lead AACC back within four points with three minutes left.

Late fouls proved costly as Cecil went to the line for nine attempts, sinking four to hold on for the win.

Cecil held a 52-36 advantage in rebounds, and scored 15 points off of the Riverhawks' 20 turnovers. AACC played tough down low, scoring 36 paint points to Cecil's 30. The Riverhawks generated 18 points off of the Hawks' 26 turnovers.

The Riverhawks host Montgomery College at 1 pm on Saturday, February 15th to close out the home portion of their schedule.
