Four From Softball Named All-Region 20

ARNOLD, MD. – Four members of the Anne Arundel Community College softball team have earned All-Region 20 honors, it was announced recently. Sophomore outfielder Alyssa Smith and freshman Kendall Thomas were named to the First Team. Sophomore Jaclyn Nevins earned a spot on the Second Team, and sophomore catcher Courtney Maurer earned a spot on the Honorable Mention Team.

Smith repeats on the First Team after starting all 30 games for the Riverhawks in center field. She collected 35 hits, including a team-high 12 doubles while driving in 20 runs. Smith scored a team-high 29 runs and had a .402 batting average and .500 on base percentage. In the field, any ball hit her way was virtually an automatic out as she recorded 55 putouts and just one error in 66 chances.  

Thomas, who earned a First Team nod at utility, served in multiple roles for the Riverhawks, including first base, designated player, and pitcher. She led the team with a .500 batting average and 44 hits in 13 multiple-hit games. Thomas struck out just three times in 88 at bats, and led the team with 29 RBI.  In the circle, Thomas made 12 appearances with a 4-5 record. She picked up the complete game win against Chesapeake on March 26 – the Riverhawks' first victory over the Skipjacks since 2012.

Nevins earns First Team honors for the third time in her career, this year in a utility spot. Nevins started all 30 games for the Riverhawks either at pitcher or short stop. In the circle, Nevins went 7-7 in 15 starts with 13 complete games. She led the team with a 4.26 ERA, and struck out 87 batters in just over 100 innings pitched. At the plate, Nevins hit .333 with nine RBI, collecting 10 hits for extra bases among her 28 hits on the year, including four home runs.

Maurer also earned All-Region accolades for the third time in her career after starting all 30 games for the Riverhawks in 2023. She led the team with five home runs, totaling 20 RBI and 20 runs scored. Maurer was perfect on the basepaths with seven steals in seven attempts.

AACC finished the season 12-17 overall and advanced to the Region 20 tournament first round.
