Catonsville Tops Softball in Region XX Tourney

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team fell to visiting CCBC Catonsville, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon in a NJCAA Region XX play-in game.

Catonsville took a 3-0 lead in the first on a three-run home run, added a single run in the fourth on an RBI groundout, and took advantage of an error to score one more in the seventh.

The Riverhawks had four hits on the day, two coming from infielder Makayla Ruleman, who went 2-for-3 on the day. She led off the third with a single and made it to second before back-to-back outs stranded her there. In the fifth, she snuck the ball just inside the left field line and made her way to third on a Courtney Mauer single, but the pair were left on with back-to-back fly outs.

Sierra Fowler singled to lead off the seventh but was tagged out as Rhiannon Claw reached via fielder's choice. Again two quick outs ended the Riverhawks' threat.

Jaclyn Nevins took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits. She struck out seven and made a stellar diving infield catch in the first.

AACC wraps up its season with an 8-10 record after advancing to the Region XX Tournament for the 10th-straight season.
