Softball Slugs Past Harford

ARNOLD, MD – Freshman Sierra Fowler hit a walk off grand slam in the sixth inning as the Anne Arundel Community College softball team defeated visiting Harford, 12-1, in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday. The second game was rained out in the top of the fourth inning with the Riverhawks ahead, 4-1.

Fowler's grand slam marked the first home run of the first baseman's career. She finished the game 3-for-3 with six RBI, including an RBI double in the third. Pitcher Jaclyn Nevins also drilled a solo home run in the fourth inning to go with an RBI single in the second.

The Riverhawks cranked out a season-high 12 hits in the opener, including four for extra bases while Nevins struck out a career-high seven and allowed one unearned run in her complete game effort.

Harford scored on an error in the top of the first, but AACC regained its composure and scored in every inning after. Four runs came across in the second, first on a sac fly from Fowler, followed by a two-run single from Courtney Croson. Nevins closed out the scoring with a single up the middle.

Fowler's double plated one in the third for a 5-1 lead, then Nevins kicked off a two-run third with her solo shot to left center. Designated player Kelsey Smith drove in one with a single to left to give AACC a 7-1 lead after four.

Courtney Maurer drove in a run in the fifth, and Fowler capped a two-hit sixth with her home run to left center.

The win marked the largest by AACC since a 19-3 win at Garrett College in April of 2019.

In the nightcap, AACC totaled seven hits through three innings and Smith had a one-hitter going while facing 10 batters and fanning three.

The Riverhawk bats got right to work in the bottom of the first, sending one run across on a Nevins triple before Skylar Storm hit a two-run home run to left center for a 3-0 lead. Croson drove in another run for AACC in the second before the Owls got one on the board on a two-out single in the third.

The rain kept coming and the game was called in the top of the fourth. A makeup date has not yet been announced.
