The Riverhawk women's softball team swept the Lakers of Garrett College this past Wednesday afternoon (3/28). Hosted at AACC, the double-header wins put the Riverhawks at 3-5 in the Conference (MDJUCO).

Game 1 Notes

Kaitlyn Nutwell (Deale, MD/Southern) would start on the mound for the Riverhawks in game 1 of the double header and hold strong for the 7-inning match-up. Facing 26 batters, Nutwell finished game 1 for AACC allowing just 2 hits, 2 earned runs, while throwing 6 strike outs.

Finally getting themselves on the board in the bottom of the 3rd with a walk for Randal Graham (Bowie, MD/Bowie) followed by a double by Hope Micallef (College Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) gave Jenna Weinstein the opportunity to drive in Graham for the tying RBI.

Nutwell and the Riverhawks would continue to play solid in the field allowing just one more run for the Lakers in the top of the 7th. Picking up runs for themselves in the fifth and sixth innings would get the job done for the Riverhawks, winning 3-2.

Game 2 Notes

Ashley Feeney (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) would start as pitcher for game two for AACC. Garrett would prove once again they could score in the 1st, this time picking up 2 runs against the Riverhawks. Shutting down any momentum gained by the Lakers, the Riverhawks responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st to quickly take the, 4-2, lead.

With AACC making great plays in the field supporting Feeney at the pitch, the Riverhawks would not allow the Lakers to score a single run in the remainder of the game. Working just as hard at the other end of the plate, AACC would tally up 2 runs in each of the 3rd and 4th innings and another 3 runs in the 5th.

With the score reaching 11-2 after a 2 RBI single by Nutwell (Logan Endley-Abbott and Katherine Rosati scoring) the Riverhawks would earn the win in just 5 innings.
