Men's Soccer To Face Oxford Emory in South District Championship

UPDATE OCTOBER 30: The NJCAA DIII South District Championship has been moved to AACC with a 4 pm start.

 

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team is slated to face Oxford College of Emory University in the NJCAA Division III South District Championship Saturday. The Riverhawks, who claimed the NJCAA Region 20 Division III title by default, will face the Eagles in a 1 pm game at Prince George's Community College.

The winner of the game will advance to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament, November 11-14, in Herkimer, NY. The Riverhawks are looking to secure their first bid to the national tournament since 2005, which was current assistant coach Ken Wolf's final season at the helm of the program before turning it over the then assistant - and current head coach -- Nick Cosentino.

AACC comes into Saturday's game as the Region 20 Division III champion with a 7-6 overall record. Against divisional Region 20 opponents, AACC went 2-0, outscoring foes, 9-2. Prince George's Community College, Allegany College of Maryland, and Westmoreland County Community College withdrew from the Region 20 tournament, leading to AACC's title. 

The Riverhawks have scored 23 goals on the season, led by six from Charles Warari, whose total includes three game-winners. In all, 10 different Riverhawks have scored this season. Nicki Llerena has proven to be the top playmaker on the team with six assists to go with a pair of goals. Goalkeeper Zane Saab has played the bulk of the minutes in net, registering a .825 save percentage and a 1.32 GAA. 

Emory Oxford, from NJCAA Region 17, comes into Saturday's game with a 4-2-2 record. The Eagles have scored 19 goals this season, led by five from Artemy Ivanov. Neils Armbruster has started six games in net for the Eagles, and has a 3.84 GAA and .571 save percentage.
