ARNOLD, MD – A two-run home run from Lennie Lehner in the bottom of the eighth inning was just enough for the Anne Arundel Community College baseball team to defeat visiting CCBC Dundalk, 7-6, in a single game at Skip Brown Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Riverhawks tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single from Jon Alderman and took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single from Bradley Zoellner. Lehner followed that up with his fifth home run of the season in the eighth to give AACC a 7-4 advantage. Dundalk scored twice in the ninth, but reliever Cam Rees induced a groundout to end the threat.

Rees struck out the first two batters he faced and earned his first win of the season scattering five hits and striking out four in three innings of work. At the plate he went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored to celebrate his birthday.

Starter Gavin Umphries also impressed, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out four and walking none in seven innings.

A sac fly in the second put Dundalk on the board first. Rees put AACC ahead with a two-out single that scored Matt Johnson from third and Jaden Jones all the way from second after he saw a misplay in the infield.

Zoellner drew a bases-loaded walk in the third to put the Riverhawks up, 3-1, but the Lions clawed their way back scoring single runs in the next three innings to retake the lead by the sixth. A pair of misplays in the fourth sent one Dundalk runner across in the fourth, a sac fly scored one more in the fifth, and a pair of hits in the sixth plated one more to see the Lions lead, 4-3.

AACC faces CCBC Dundalk again on Thursday in a single game, this time in Dundalk. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
