Baseball Splits With Frederick

ARNOLD, MD – The AACC baseball team earned a split with visiting Frederick Community College Saturday at Skip Brown Field. The Riverhawks won the opener, 6-4, before falling, 7-3, in the nightcap.

EJ Santana went 3-for-3 with four RBI on two doubles in the first game, which saw Lennie Lehner pick up a save in his second appearance on the mound this season.

AJ Zeak earned the win to move to 5-2 on the season, striking out three while allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits through 5.2 innings. Lehner struck out one and surrendered one hit in his 1.1 inning closing appearance.

Frederick took a 1-0 lead in the first, and Santana hit RBI doubles in both the first and third to edge AACC ahead, 2-1. Frederick got one back in the fourth, but Santana went to work again in the fifth, driving in two on a single up the middle before executing a double steal to send Lehner across for a 5-2 lead.

Another error and a sac fly in the top of the sixth brought Frederick within striking distance, but Lehner took to the mound to strike out the final batter of the inning. A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the inning gave AACC a two-run cushion and Lehner worked out of a two-runners on situation in the seventh to ensure the win.

Lehner hit a double and a two-run home run in the fifth to highlight game two. Bradley Zoeller drove in a run in the second, while Cam Rees finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Matt Johnson took the loss for the Riverhawks, allowing a pair of runs (none earned) on four hits in three innings of work.

AACC hosts Potomac State in a single nine-inning game Sunday.
