Baseball Earns Split With Garrett

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Garrett College Saturday afternoon. The Riverhawks won the first game, 11-1, in five innings, before falling in the second game, 8-4.

In the opener, AJ Zeak won his fourth game on the mound, allowing four hits and fanning two in five innings. Tripp Templeton went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the game.

An EJ Santana double plated Parker Jones in the first, and AACC never looked back. The Riverhawks took a 2-0 lead on a Templeton single in the third before scoring four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth for the walk-off win.

After Daniel Stern singled to lead off the fourth, AACC took advantage of two errors in the fourth to load the bases. An Ian Adams single and a Lennie Lehner sac fly sent two Riverhawks across, then AACC loaded the bases again to set up Jon Alderman for an RBI bases loaded walk that chased out the Garrett starter. Templeton capped the inning's scoring with a sac fly.

Garrett got one run back in the fifth, but the Riverhawks were back on the attack in the bottom of the frame.

AACC loaded the bases on an error and a pair of hits before scoring on a balk. With the bases loaded again, AACC added two on a passed ball and an error before Templeton hit an RBI double to end the game.

The Riverhawks gave up two runs to start the second game, but came back in the bottom half of the inning with five hits to take a one-run lead. The Lakers scored single runs in the second, third and fourth, before adding two more in the fifth.

AACC got one back in the fifth on a Templeton sacrifice fly, but allowed one more Laker run in the sixth.

The Riverhawks turned a season-high two double plays in the game. Rees went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot, while Alderman hit 2-for-3 with an RBI double.

AACC is back in action on Tuesday, April 6th in a 3:30 pm single game at Chesapeake College.
