Bio

Jessica Mathes joined the Riverhawks as office manager in 2018 and was promoted to athletic specialist, budget and operations in the fall of 2024. In June, 2025, Mathes was named head coach of the women's basketball program. With previous experiences as high school dean of students, director of athletics, assistant principal of operations, and various coaching roles across multiple levels, Mathes brings a wealth of experience to her roles.

As athletic specialist, budget and operations, Mathes is responsible in assisting the coordination & management of the day-to-day operations of the department, team travel and budgeting approvals, and also administrating the essential logistical and routine needs for the athletics department.

Mathes’ coaching career includes a four-year stint as assistant coach with the Riverhawks from 2019-2023, helping guide AACC to a runner-up finish in Region 20 in her first season and to two Region 20 semifinals appearances (2022, 2023). Mathes has held head coaching roles in boys’ varsity basketball and girls’ AAU programs, where she led teams to national prominence—including a national championship win at the 18U level. Most recently, she helped lead the Indian Creek School girls’ varsity team to back-to-back Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) “C” Conference titles in 2023 and 2024. Mathes also brings administrative experience from her tenure as athletic director and head boys’ varsity basketball coach at D.C. Public Charter School.

Mathes embodies a coaching philosophy that emphasizes character development, academic achievement, and teamwork—closely aligning with AACC Athletics' values of professionalism, respect, integrity, development, and equity (PRIDE).

A former multi-sport high school athlete and U.S. Army veteran, Mathes played basketball for 13 years and softball for six while serving her country. She holds a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine and a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies from Liberty University.
