No. 3 Women's Lacrosse Falls to Harford in District Championship

ARNOLD, Md. – The No. 3 Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Harford, 12-10, in the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Championship at Siegert Field Friday evening. The Owls used four-goal runs in the first and third quarters to earn the win.

Grace Adkins scored three goals for AACC. Rian Dennis scored two goals and assisted another. Ashlynn Deans and Shelby Blanford each scored twice. Cassidy Cook scored a goal and picked up an assist.

Rian Dennis scored the first goal of the game at 12:04 before the Owls rattled off four in a row spanning the first and second quarters.

AACC responded with four in a row, including free position goals from Cook and Dennis, to retake the lead with 3:33 left in the first half. Harford answered with two goals to carry a 6-5 lead into halftime.

Adkins knotted the game at 6-6 early in the third quarter, but Harford's second four-goal run put some distance between the teams.

The teams traded goals early in the fourth. Deans scored twice late for AACC, but the comeback fell short.

AACC led in groundballs, 18-11, but saw Harford hold a 16-10 advantage in draw controls. The Owls committed 23 turnovers to the Riverhawks' 18, and took advantage of eight AACC miscues in the third quarter.

The Riverhawks will now face No. 1 Onondaga in the NJCAA Women's Lacrosse Invitational semifinals Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. at Harford Community College. Visit https://www.njcaa.org/championships/sports/wlax/index for tournament details including broadcast, ticket, and travel information.
