No. 1 Women's Lax Rolls Past No. 3 Monroe

ARNOLD, MD. – Led by 11 goals and two assists from freshman Lyndsey Miller, the top-ranked Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team defeated No. 3 Monroe, 25-15, Saturday at Siegert Field. The Riverhawks improve to 5-0 on the season with two regular-season games remaining on their schedule.

The unanimous number one pick AACC hosts No. 2 Onondaga on Saturday, April 15, before closing out the regular season at home against No. 4 Harford Monday, April 17 at 6 p.m.

Julia Sokolowski added eight goals and an assist, while Savanna Reitz scored three goals and an assist. Jaymee Green scored three goals. Bailey Makarovich had three assists, and Nellie Gownley added a helper.

With Reitz on the draw, the Riverhawks won a staggering 32 of 42 draws, led by 11 draw controls from Miller, eight from Sokolowski, seven from Reitz, and six from Gownley.

Monroe scored the first two goals of the game before Miller sparked a six-goal run by scoring four goals in a 1:17 span to shift the momentum back to the Riverhawks. Monroe got two back ate before Miller gave the Riverhawks a 7-4 advantage headed into the first quarter break.

AACC scored the first three goals of the second to go up by six, 10-4. After a brief three-goal run by Monroe, the Riverhawks regrouped for five straight goals, including one man up, and two man down strikes. At the half, AACC led, 16-9.

Monroe came out hot in the third, scoring the first four goals of the half to get within three goals of the Riverhawks. AACC again regrouped to score five goals (three man-up) in the final 3:30 of the quarter.

The Riverhawks twice got to the running clock advantage in the final quarter in the 10-goal win.

AACC goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans made six saves in her fifth win of the season. AACC outshot Monroe, 51-24, seeing Tribunes' keeper Riley Bready make a season-high 16 saves.
