No.1 Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Pair of Top-Five Wins in N.Y. Weekend

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The top-ranked Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team romped through Upstate New York over the weekend picking up a pair of top-five wins within a 22 hour span as the Riverhawks dealt No. 5 Monroe a 23-14 defeat Friday before winning at No. 2 Onondaga, 19-8, on Saturday afternoon.

Lyndsey Miller led the Riverhawks with 13 goals and nine assists on the weekend. She also corralled 11 draw controls. Julia Sokolowski scored eight goals to go with six assists and 12 draws while going 4-for-4 in free position shots and recording six caused turnovers. Jaymee Green scored nine times. Bailey Makarovich and Savanna Reitz each recorded seven points – Makarovich with three goals and four assists, and Reitz with six goals and a helper. Reitz also had nine draw controls and five caused turnovers.

Against Monroe on Friday, AACC jumped out to a 6-0 lead within the first six minutes, and headed into halftime with a 16-7 advantage. The Riverhawks forced a running clock for the entire fourth quarter of the game and outshot the Tribunes at a 32-27 margin.

Against the second-ranked Lazers Saturday, AACC led, 6-3, at the end of the first quarter and 11-5 at halftime. The Riverhawks outscored the Lazers, 5-2 in the third quarter and 3-1 in the final frame. AACC keeper Kaitlyn Evans made a season-high 14 saves against Onondaga, after stopping nine shots the day before against Monroe.

Next up, AACC hosts Monroe, now ranked third in the nation, on Saturday, April 8th in a 2:30 p.m. game at Siegert Field.
